"My design was inspired by this year’s fashion show theme: Fields of Fashion. I want to be a bridal designer so I decided to create a design that a bride would wear in a beautiful field of flowers. The process was long and required a lot of hard work, but I think designing for the USC fashion show was incredibly rewarding and worth it.
I started by sketching my design and kept looking at it so I could slowly perfect and plan the small details in my design. While doing this, I also started to do research on ways to make my design as sustainable as possible and I found different ideas that would make my design come to life. I decided to use bedsheets and sheer curtains to make the skirt, part of the corset and the floor length draped sleeves, and I reused the lace from my first communion dress for the mid-drift. I had to get very creative with the boning of the dress to make it sustainable, so I decided to cut some cardboard into sticks and wrap it around the fabric. I spent approximately two months sewing it all together because the majority of the dress was all sewn by hand.
The day of the fashion show, I was incredibly nervous and excited, but thankfully the two months of hard work paid off. I won first place and got a $500 scholarship. It was such an amazing experience and I am so thankful to the College of HRSM and Fashion Board for all the support I received."
